Our Guide to Spending a Week in Mougins

Mougins is located in the heights above Cannes and is only a 15 minute drive from the center of Cannes. The Mougins village is picturesque and has been frequented and inhabited by many artists and celebrities, including Pablo Picasso, Jean Cocteau, Yves Klein, Yves Saint Laurent, Christian Dior, Winston Churchill, Édith Piaf and Jacques Brel, to name but a few.

Mougins has a strong culinary history with great chefs such as as Roger Vergé and Alain Ducasse having managed restaurants in the village. Mougins hosts the annual ‘International Gastronomy Festival of Mougins’, or ‘Les Étoiles de Mougins’, an international gastronomic event taking place every year in the village. In addition, there are a number of Michelin starred restaurants in Mougins.

The hilltop of Mougins has been occupied since the pre-Roman period. In the 11th century the Count of Antibes gave the Mougins hillside to the Monks of Saint-Honorat (from the nearby Îles de Lerins just off the coast of Cannes) who continued to administer the village until the French Revolution. During this period, Mougins was a fortified village surrounded by ramparts and parts of the medieval city wall still exist today as well as one of the three original ancient gate towers (Porte Sarrazine).

Did you know?

Pablo Picasso spent the last 12 years of his life living in Mougins (1961-1973), where he died. Picasso lived in a farmhouse and his studio was in the old village in a building that is now the tourist office.

A Week in Mougins – Our Recommendations

The following is our guide for a one-week stay in Mougins. This is a proposed itinerary for our guests but we can tailor your holiday according to your preferences.

Visit the port and the charming cobblestone streets of Vieil Antibes (20 minutes away)

Enjoy a fresh plate of fritto misto on the dock at Royal Plage

Spend the afternoon on the sandy beaches of Plage Garoupe

Feeling more active? Enjoy a beautiful trail along the sea that starts from Plage Garoupe and goes along the peninsula of Cap d’Antibes.

Day 4 – Tuesday:

Continental breakfast prepared by chef

Create your one-of-a-kind perfume with a private, exclusive perfume workshop at Molinard in Grasse

Lunch at La Place de Mougins, a charming restaurant on the main square of Mougins Village

Tour the shops and galleries in Mougins Village

Day 6 – Thursday:

Continental breakfast prepared by chef

Lunch and an afternoon at the Mougins Royal Golf course

Not up for golf? Stay at the villa and indulge in a private massage.

Dinner at the oldest restaurant in Cannes, Da Bouttau (15 minutes away)

Located on a charming pedestrian street in the old town of Cannes, this restaurant offers friendly service and exceptional French cuisine.

Day 7 – Friday:

Tour the lively market of Valbonne (10-15 minutes away)

Dinner at Michelin starred restaurant Le Candille in Mougins

This highly recommended restaurant is at Le Mas Candille, a beautiful 5 star Relais & Chateaux hotel.
